And to Think, I Hardly Ever Win Anything

Things have been changing over here, and if you haven't noticed... Well, then it's time to grab that second cup of coffee. Yes, my blog has gotten a nice little overhaul. Earlier this month, I won a blog makeover by the lovely Timi of Cinnamon Girl Studio. Timi was asking me what I had in my mind's eye, and I really wanted a slideshow banner, especially with how quickly my items are getting snatched up these days. After some considerable effort, Timi found a way to make it happen! The two of us have been toiling into the wee hours of the morning for the past week collaborating on a fresh new design.

I have to say, I am thrilled with the results. So, mill about, listen to the new song on my playlist, watch the slideshow, and make yourself at home! I am so glad you're here!

Oh, yes, I almost forgot, as the links above indicate, this is not my only big project in the works. Some of those other things are quite a ways out, but it will give you a good idea of what is coming. Thank you so much, Timi, for all your hard work; I couldn't be happier!

Jessica, this is beautiful! Congratulations! The picture of you holding Mia is just precious. Loving the mischievous pics of the kiddos, and is that your husband sipping a glass of wine? So fabulous girl! Oh & I saw something else I am crazy about....hmmmm....what could that be? hehe

The pictures perfectly portray life, shoes, and your pursuit of sanity and how fabulous is that!

Hope you have the best day!

Hi, Jessica
I love the changes!!, the children's photographs are so beautiful large format, and the articles look great. With the passage of time visiting blogs I've noticed that most successful blogs, I mean the designers, artists, there are large photos, images impact people. in mine I've been getting increasingly larger photos. Congratulations and good luck with your new projects !!.

Yaaayyyy!! This is just wonderful, absolutely stunning! I am so happy for you! That banner is just fabulous....gives everyone a sneak peak of your beautiful life, your perfectly adorable children, and your outstanding talent.

Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your world. I, for one, feel blessed to know you {at least virtually :)} and experience your business grow. So fun!

Your new blog is absolutely gorgeous! Can't wait to see what else you have up your sleeve:)

Thanks so much for all your positive feedback! I am feeling a lot more "official" now :) Thanks, again, Timi, for everything! As you saw, the website and studio links aren't ready yet. Oh, almost forgot that I have a new logo, too! It's been so difficult to balance investing time in these new projects, being a part of the community the amazing community of women that is developing here, and still managing the ins-and-outs of every day business. I wish you gals were local... I'd put you all on staff! :) Oh, and I LOVE that I can see yoru pictures now. I couldn't before, for some odd reason....

Oh Jessica this is just amazing. I love it!
Your children are absolutely adorable. And the shoes..ahhhh, so beautiful :)
I love the banner it is so perfect.

And congratulations on winning, you definitely deserve it :)

Mrs.LifeAccounts said...

well, if you ever have ANYTHING that you can put me/us on staff from a distance for, I call it now! And I mean that, I wish there was more that I could do for you! (other than buying all your gorgeous shoes of course)

Love the new look! How wonderful to have a site that you feel is an honest reflection of yourself and your commitment to your work. Congrats :)

Oh, forgot to add... if you encounter any difficulties {like navigating back to the main page} please let me know! I can fine tune any problems with the new format.

Also, Mande had wrote the following in a previous comment:

====================================
Jess I can relate to finding where you fit in. We lived away for 10 years and moved back home thinking everything would be like it was. Even at home we sometimes feel out of place. I am looking into local mommy day out groups to see if there are any I would fit in with. Are there any mommy networks near you? Has anyone blogging tried these before?
=====================================

I can completely relate to that feeling! Maybe it's because we made offers on 6 homes before the one we live in, or b/c it's much harder to maintain a home now that I have two kiddos and a business, or b/c it's just really hard to adjust to a cross-country move. I don't know... Our first home had so much history. It was 100 yrs old, I had my bridal shower there before we even owned it, and we bought it from a local missionary that we knew. I had a much greater emotional connection to it. So, I can def relate to not feeling at home even at home.

One of the best resources I have found to feeling more settled in this community has been joining a MOPS {Mother of Pre-Schoolers} group. The kiddos go to class or nursery while the moms have breakfast and talk about various issues: discipline, marriage, spirituality, etc. It's been a wonderful way to connect in the journey of motherhood. Being a mom to young children can be very isolating! MOPS has been a great help; I'm sure you can find one in your area :)

Oh, and I am back to using Twitter... no more "I'm gonna eat you instead of the turkey"... lol

Hey Jessica, I subscribed to all the comments following mine, but never did recieve any emails. Normally I do from your blog, but maybe this format is different {although I did click the subscribe by email button and it told me emails were coming}, or maybe it was me? Anyway, did anyone else get the comments emailed to them ?

Also, Mande, my church has a mothers support group which is just fabulous, but one thing I have loved most is taking my oldest to Gymboree Play and Music classes. I have met the best moms {outside of my church which is basically where I live for obvious reasons} while my son gets an education. Hope you find the right outlet!

LOVE, love, the new look! You are an amazingly, creative woman!!

Vero Garcia said...

Love it!!!! Congrats Jess!!! You are lucky that you have that kind of groups in US.. In Mexico there aren't local mommy groups... in here the society is very close-minded.. :( With really snob people... Since i'm 26 all my friends from highschool and college aren't married... and the ones thatare married aren't living in here... :( Hope to make good friends with the moms of pre-school of my oldest son.

yay for the real twitter posts! lol :) that was pretty hilarious though if anyone read through them.

Jessica Haley said...

I've gotten some feedback that there are problems loading the page. Any one else experiencing that?

Ariana said...

Hi Jessica, At first I thought I was at the wrong website...but then it loaded. VERY NICE! I LOVE IT! Regarding the mom groups, I got on the PTA board somehow. I have been really busy helping the school, teachers and kiddos. I feel a great deal of accomplishment. I recommend joining your school's PTA:) And the other members are now "my girls." They are so reliable! My goal though was to get more Spanish speaking members (since I speak spanish) but they won't budge. Le sigh...

Mrs.LifeAccounts said...

I haven't had any problems loading the pages! It's a bit slower but I have a feeling that's just due to the picture slide show (when I say slower, it's not really slow, in fact its barely noticeable)

Katie said...

Wow! Your blog looks amazing! As amazing as this cooler weather *wink*

Seriously- it rocks and reflect you perfectly.

Keep it coming!

Amy said...

The only thing I noticed is that you can't click on the banner to refresh/take you back to the main page {that was my fave thing to do during GA :)}, but loading is fine!

Jessica Haley said...

Katie, thanks for the chuckle. *nudge, nudge, wink, wink*

Amy, you're not the first one to mention that. I'll ask Timi; I'm sure we can add it to either the slideshow on the smaller logo. :)

Amy said...

yayy...your comment came to my email, I guess I subscribed right this time! :)

LaDawn D said...

Jess, what's funny about the post that we all would love to "work" for you is; I just had a dream Monday night that I was your purchasing agent (yep I had a title) and I went all around the world and brought back amazing fabrics and embellishments. It was a great dream:) I am thinking you would have to charge a lot more for the shoes if you start hiring me to fly to Japan:) teehee Just another sign that I have MJ on my mind maybe a bit too often! But, of course we are all bursting at the seams and wishing there was something we could do to help you out. I can't sew, but I wish I could be a little shoe elf and show up at your door with a few hundred pair of your shoes all ready to list:)

On a serious note if there is EVER/ANYTHING that would help you out, you have a very big group of friends that would all jump at the chance to help you...maybe we can all make 2 or 3 fabric flowers and mail them out to you:) It could be worth a shot...and I know that we would all gladly do it without any form of compensation because you see you have given us all something that money can't buy....a Friendship! Call on us:)

Alisha said...

Yes...exactly what LaDawn said....
I thought maybe we could all take turns flying to your home to help you clean the house, babysit, or even cut fabric :)

We are all blessed to have you as our friend.. And we are all here for you if you need us for anything.

mama turtle said...

Very nice! Timi may be getting more work soon!

Jessica Haley said...

LaDawn, you are SO SWEET! I think we need to put together a MiaJoie gang. We can fly around on official business, ya know, scouring French flea markets for fabulous textiles; of course, we'll have to maintain our purchasing stamina with dark coffee and chocolate croissants for breakfast, and savory crepes for lunch... maybe a bottle of red wine in the evening to relax after our hard work ;)

In all seriousness, I had my head in my hands, hunched over the key board {with Mia probably swinging from an elbow} wondering how I will get it done, trying to reconcile the momentum in me that says "grow, grow, grow" with the other voice that says,"but your a mama to two precious little ones." Either way, I need better boundaries and help! I'm def praying into the right solution. It feels wonderful to have such supportive friends! You gals are the best! Oh, and Alisha, clean my house--eek! You have no idea the talent my children have for disaster. :)

Amy said...

Yes, Alisha knows about disaster. She helps me clean up after Jake and Evy... and Mia and Aidan sound just like them. Let her do it, trust me she is awesome. You will fly her in monthly as your personal assit. haha

I'm in on the trip. Especially the chocolate croissants.. Where do I sign up? :) Seriously, LaDawn said it, you have a created a little group of friends here, one, if I can be honest, that I have been praying for for a very long time. Being a mom is hard, especially if you are stuck at home most of the time. Having this little group of ladies makes my day go by so much faster.

Thank you everyone for being there...and thank you Jessica for what you do! We love you and believe me, whether you grow grow grow or not, we'll still be here buying MJ Couture! :)

Alisha said...

Oh, to be a personal assistant to Jessica..that sounds just lovely.

Jessica, you would have to know my personality to know that I love to clean and organize it makes me very happy :) especially when it is to help others. It is actually what I do everyday for my boss.

Okay Ladies so here's the plan: LaDawn will travel the world for all of your fabrics & supplies. I will clean, organize and take care of Mia and Aidan, Amy will make the chocolate crossiants & crepes {she is an amazing cook} and Jen will be your personal accountant. So you see Jessica, we can handle it all so you can just focus on this amazing business God has given you :)

I completely agree with Amy, I do feel blessed to have found this amazing group of moms. It is a great escape each day to hear what you all are up to. Jessica we do love you and think you are an amazing person. Come visit me and Amy and we will take you to a spa in Napa for the weekend :)

Oh my GOSH--I've SO missed you guys! Is there ANY place more inspiring, more uplifting, more unified, than THIS BLOG? These women have got to be some of the most incredible people I've EVER "met" and yet, never met. I'm literally blown away by every single one of you...on a daily basis. I always read...haven't commented in awhile--but, I've read every word...and I just can't tell you what an oasis of peace and acceptance this place Jess has created has become (for all of us, I know).

Can I please be on the Public Relations team? I know that every single one of us could sing the praises of MJ exquisitely, but, I have a very special place in my heart for drama. I just happen to adore it. So, if ever there is the opportunity to write/speak on MJ's lineage of accomplishments and exclusive offerings...that's my ideal position. And, of course--we're all doing this pro bono right now, correct. Yes, it's completely free due to an unyielding and unquenchable thirst to honor and assist the now superstar designer in each and every one of our minds. No explanation needed.

LOVE all of your commentary--just unique as can be. I've never even HEARD of a place like this. And, while it may be slightly in jest--I know that we all believe it and would do it in a heart beat. Missed you guys!

LaDawn D said...

Welcome back T! We have definitely missed your inspiration...great to hear from you again:) And I can't think of anyone better to head the Public Relations department!

To the new "staff" of Mia Joie ("Enterprises" or somthing official like that), I look forward to our first staff meetings! And cannot wait to taste the crepes...and drink wine! What a great boss we have.

Jess, although it sounds as if we are all being a tad silly here, don't doubt for one second that if you ever said you could use a few helpers for even a week we would all be on planes to Houston! Rest assured that your children know and feel your love all around them, we can feel it from thousands of miles away. Sometimes we tend to focus on the negative and in reality you do more with and for your kids than most of the parents in the country! It is evident here to all of us that your kids are definitely a priority in your life and you should give yourself some praise that you ARE balancing all aspects of your life! The Lord has a plan for you and Mia Joie and you just need to hold on tight and let it fly! I (we) are all lifting you up in our prayers daily for a bit of peace and serenity in your chaos!

You all are fabulous & such a comfort for a SAHM that does not have many girlfriends since moving back "home". I must say I read spa weekend in Napa and oh my, Alisha & Amy that would be the most perfect place to get everyone together. I am serious BTW. LOVE Napa....wine, girlfriends-(from virtual to reality-lol), & a spa.

When can we do this for real? Oh & sign me up to be on the committee. My dad is teaching me how to sew and if I can do anything at all to help out Jess, I would love to. :)

Tory said...

:) Thanks LaDawn! There is power in numbers...imagine what the women here could accomplish just by pooling our efforts. Pretty fun to think about.

Alisha said...

Yayy.. Tory is back! We missed you :)

Amy said...

Horray! Tory is back! :) PR rep it is girl.

Napa would be wonderful! That is is only a short drive from us, and actually it is the town over from where I grew up, in Santa Rosa. It is lovely there, however, I must say, the summer and fall time is the best, especially the fall during the harvest. You can smell the grapes in the air. Great guys thanks now I'm homesick haha.

Someday I'll post a bunch of pics on my blog of the valley, that'll make you come in a heartbeat, especially if you haven't been there before. :)

I do cook, but never made a chocolate crossaint. Off to start learning! :) xoxox

LaDawn D said...

Mande, I too am SERIOUSLY open for a meeting in Napa:) I think there may be a Mia Joie conference in the making!!! Maybe Alisha and Amy can spearhead the project since they are in the area? And I think Jess could probably get her hubby to figure out the wine end of things! hehe

Tory, it really is incredible when you think of what an amazing group of women gather here....oh the things we could do, the places we could go! Maybe we need to pick a cause to fight for together...

Alisha said...

Amy, I am on my way ;)

Mande said...

Oh Amy, Napa in the fall sounds so perfect. It is so beautiful there. My husband took me to Napa & Sonoma for a week when I graduated from college & I have been longing to get back ever since. :)

I hope all of you lovely ladies have a beautiful weekend! Cheers to the best gals on the web!

Hana said...

Jess, it looks FABULOUS!! We must be running on the same wavelength b/c I am revamping my blog too and adding an additional photog blog as well as a website! Lots of work! Yours looks amazing! Mine is actually quite similar...weird! lol! Hopefully I'll have it up soon! I'm sure you are loving yours!

Tory said...

That's such a great idea! (fighting for a cause) And, you know that ANY cause we got behind would enjoy such an awesome boost in morale. Being in Napa...icing on the cake.

Even though staging an event in Napa might take some time, I think there is a lot of merit to this idea. You could do so much good and reach so many people if you ever chose to "unleash the troops". You always think of fun and creative ways to inspire--you already have been donating 10% of sales to fighting hunger since you started MJ, yes?--so I suppose the idea has always been there for you. We are all ready! And, with the fantastic women you have assembled, you could set almost anything into motion. Just keeps getting better...

(Alisha & Amy--thank you for being so kind and for your good hearts! So uplifting!)

Jessica Haley said...

Hmm, I have some interesting ideas on this. I'm am in the middle of some major growing pains, but I think this might be a fun idea. {he, he... drums fingers together and chuckles an evil chuckle}

In all seriousness, some of you have mentioned the idea of helping me. I am not all-together opposed to paying some of you to help me. I guess it would just depend on your skill set and what can be done across distance. Make a suggestion, and I might consider it. :)

Ugh... gotta go, I hear Aidan, the dogs, and the sound of the plunger in the 1/2 bath. This is gonna be good....

Jessica Haley said...

I forgot to mention, per my comment above, please contact me about this via email at miajoieboutique@yahoo.com rather than posting in a comment. Thanks!

Jenny Plumb said...

Nice new look Jessica! Well, since I didn't win any amazing blog makeover, I actually had to crack the html code and do it all myself. It took two days of making graphics, buttons, and links, and carefully getting the html code right. Ugh, Ugh, Ugh. Now I know why people pay upwards of $150 for that. And there are still a few things to my critical eye that still aren't "quite" right. But I feel like my blog is a bit more professional and presentable now. But Ugh. Just ugh. A lovely blog for free is such a blessing. Consider yourself VERY lucky.
