Painting in Her Party Dress

In order to truly appreciate this photo, you need to note the purple marker on her arms, the afforementioned gold dress which functions as a handy makeshift paper towel, and the lack of paper which by no way inpugns her creative spirit...

OH My Gosh!! Were you just livid or laughing? Or were you laughing to prevent being livid?:) Water based paint, yes? My little one has just discovered paint and I've been finding art work ALL over the house, even in weird places that I didn't even know that they've been in.
Gotta love em :)
Seriously? I would die...
On one hand, I see this adorable little girl enthralled in discovery, wonderfully commited to her painting!
On the other hand, I see myself as a mother walking in to find my daughter in this *adorable state* and feeling an overwhelming sense of defeat
I was always the one who loved letting kids get in to it all and just have fun, explore and learn~ no consideration to the mess that would ensue...
Where did that person go?
I will continue as a mother to try and remember the joy that moments like these can bring and take pleasure in them, as difficult as it may sometimes be~
As for the dress, good luck on getting the paint out! Mia may have just painted herself a beautiful new smock!
Have a wonderful day Jess :)
To answer your question, I sorta had it coming. I knew she was painting with Aidan in the kitchen. I was on the laptop in my bedroom, which I knew was a bad call anyway. I did NOT know that she had this dress on.
Was I mad? No, not really. Although that dress is really sweet, she did wear it last Christmas and there aren't too many occassions where it's appropriate for a toddler to wear a gold dress. {How often does a gal of any age wear a gold dress, for that matter?} I don't think it will come out. I don't care. It created such a beautiful moment. I hope they remember happily painting and bright colors and mom laughing and feeling free...
I have had many of those moments and I think it's best to just shrug it off and smile. In the whole scheme of things, I am sure this is a tiny thing and worse will be done. :)
She does look inspired though!
that is the sweetest thing. What a good mom you are to just go with it.
What a beautiful disaster!
Good for you to just let them be kids and create freely. I am sure they were so happy mommy wasn't mad at their mess. I will need to remember this in the future when Jude is older ;)
Ha! Jenni, you said it perfectly!
Alsiha, you've been on my mind. I am working on something for you at this moment... coming priority. I'll send you tracking. :)
Love these pictures!! My son said he was drawing pictures for his classmates in the kitchen. OK, I said from the babies room. I came out to find him covered in "tattoos" on his arms- luckily washable markers were used. He even colored in his belly button- green! I laughed. I should have been mad, but I actually thought is was cute. Then we talked about coloring "only on the paper" moving forward. Yeah, right. :)
Thanks for sharing this sweet little spot in your morning.
You should frame this immediately and have it out for show at her high school and college grad, milestone bdays, bridal showers and wedding. What a priceless memory and beautiful pictures to capture it!
xoxo
Haha! Love it! I think she has your artist genes!
Oh and if you have decided which one, I think I should have time to make your dress this weekend!
Oh my!! Glad you grabbed the camera to capture this moment.
i am glad you laughed. one time i walked into my nursery and there were the youngest kids the older one had dumped like 10 bottles of paints (the little bottles)over the younger kids head. on his own and all over the nursery. you could laugh or cry...so i laughed..wish i had gotten a picture.everything went in the garbage!
Perfect...thanks Jessica :)
This is priceless.. Just about anything you can capture from younger to this age is priceless.. wondering what were they even thinking... knowing I would never want to get such a cute dress dirty in the slightest..
Jessica have you received any of my emails? Just curious if you were getting them.. nothing too important!
Jillian Covey
Jillian, I did get your email {only one, though} and just now replied. Please let me know if you did not receive it :)
