Hello! Hello!

Photobucket
Lately I feel as if I have vanished off the face of blog world... barely checking in on facebook, blog comments, etc. Here's the skinny: working very hard on new inventory, hired new college intern, have little boy who might need glasses, planning curriculum for the Boulder creative retreat, and of course, struggling to survive the daily in's-and-out's of orders. In this moment, I feel a bit deflated.

I want to send out a hello and an apology to the lovely girls of Icing Designs, who I have been meaning to blog about for quite awhile now. They put together this lovely banner, and I have several other goodies they created for me that I will give away. I also have a photo friday, but I don't know when I will shoot it. I'm feel maxed out and tired today. I want to lay on some grassy hill somewhere in the sunshine and let a cool breeze blow over my face and not think about all the things I need to do. Many of these are exciting and fun--but an overload all the same. Training staff is hard work, and a huge and stressful time commitment in the beginning. I look forward to introducing Nicole to you, and having all the order inquiry emails go to her instead of me. {w00t!w00t!} In the meantime, the lovely Alisha is manning the info@joyfolie.com email. She is so awesome, and keeping me from going to pieces. Thanks, Alisha, you're the BEST!

In keeping with the decor, here's a photo of a chalkboard wall I think is lovely. I enjoy how the bright children's toys are part of the design. I also love the music on her website. I heart Brett Dennen. {A few of his songs are in my playlist.} Anyhow, thanks for hanging in there with me as I struggle to survive this week! Keep an eye out for photo Friday over the weekend. Happy Friday!

Photo Friday - Amber and Butterflies

Photobucket

Good morning! If you read my comments on Facebook, then you know that yesterday was one of those "tear my hair out" mommy days. Mia is giving up her nap, even though she still really needs one. Every day we do battle over it, and inevitably after about 45 minutes of protest, she is still awake--and triumphant! Of course, 6 o'clock rolls around, and she's an in consolable little grump.

Anyhow, I love today's image and the fanciful juxtaposition of the colorful butterflies against her amber hair. I had a bear of a time getting my image... I don't know why. I suppose because for every single one of my photos I am very rushed and have one child playing and pulling things out of the shot. C'est-la-vie! Today's photo features beautiful soft and 100% silk velvet shoes with little ties. Additionally, we are now offering butterfly accessories. Each one is carefully hand cut from designer fabrics and paired with either lace/tulle and a czech aurora borealis bead.
Photobucket

I really love these shoes--you can't go wrong with this color of velvet! So soft and sweet, but a nice dark color, so they are perfect with jeans and dressing up. Wouldn't these be so cute in a goldenrod yellow velvet with a peep toe and purple tights! These shoes are one of a kind and available here.

Each Meralie butterfly comes packaged in it's own pillow box, which makes it a great gift. They are designed to be clipped to a t-shirt, but they could also be used to decorate a room or as a hair clip. For now, I have only one each available here.

I will be offering several items this Sunday at 7 pm CST. Items include: smoke and sparkle ballet flats and matching headbands, scarlet autumn Julie shoes, Lilabell in pink and indigo, more Meralie Butterflies, and a dozen limited edition Joyfolie banners. Additional details will be posted over the weekend!

Hocus Pocus Symphony

Photobucket

I rolled out of bed groggy this morning. Mia was pounding on the toy piano's keys with gusto. Aidan shook his head at Mia, and with a sniffle-y laugh commended, "She's crazy." All I could think was TGIF. F? Friday?! The week went by so fast, and I can't believe how much I have to do with only one day left! Plus, another photo Friday snuck up on me with no blog posts in between. Last night we went to the Houston Symphony. They have a special Halloween concert every year. The kids dress up in costumes, we sit outside on the lawn, and they play "Night on Bald Mountain" and other spooky classics. This year they had a light show and released smoke into the audience, while the kids ate a weeks worth of candy in one sitting. It was a fun night, even if I woke up feeling a little flustered and behind this morning.

I don't have any Friday meetings today, so hopefully Photo Friday will come earlier than last week. Also, I will be offering these banners and some fun little giveaways hopefully today. Most of this week I have been working on a few apparel projects. I have to say, I am so excited! I just can't wait to show you, and I can't wait to put the whole ensemble on my Mia! All these items are produced in the US, so they should be available soon. I hate to be a tease, so I'll post more info as soon as I have something certain. You should hear more from me just a few hours from now, but in the meantime I'll leave you with one pic from last night. My Aidan and his missing tooth {which was painfully extracted after he fractured it!} And his healed nose {which he broke on our bed.} Some of you read on Facebook that he just fractured his collar bone, and we spent several hours on Monday at Urgent Care. It was a "green snap," as the doctor called it because the bone was fractured on one side but not all the way through. Aidan refuses to wear a sling, but just keeps his arm close to his chest. As you can see, my rough and tumble boy is healing nicely and getting along just fine! Though at this rate, prayers for no broken limbs would be greatly appreciated!

Photo Folie - Smokey Grey

Photobucket
Before the Ball and Chandelier by FleurBonheur

Hello and happy Friday! Due to popular demand, today's photo Friday has shades of smokey gray. The truth is, I wanted to do some gray boots, but I did not have the fabric I wanted on hand. Today's photography is by Fleur Bonheur, who offers unusual digital collages, some like this one are a combination of beauty and haunting. As for the shoe design, not too far off the beaten path today. Every photo Friday I want to reinvent the wheel--do something different and unique. But today's shoes, the Luciana, are similar to other styles I've done, but lovely all the same. They are made from heathered gray wool, silver grosgrain ribbon, and rhinestone detail. Totally and completely à la my miss Mia, the perpetual princess. While it doesn't show up with the lighting in the photo, the shoes have a good bit of sparkle that were casting rainbows through the studio as I was sewing them.
Photobucket

I made a few sizes of these shoes, but they are so close but not quite finished. Perhaps I can complete those and the Julie shoes and list them at the same time. I also made a sweet little headband, hand wrapped in ribbon with more rhinestones and grosgrain and a piling of hand torn chiffon. I will take a photo of it worn before I list them. Happy Weekend!

Cake and Boots

Photobucket

Hello! I've missed you. I feel like I barely have time to just enjoy the internet nor visit my favorite blogs. I am, as always, one busy girl. If you have sent me an email, please know we have already set up two new Joyfolie email accounts because I cannot handle the volume! Very soon at least one of those will be functional. Regarding orders, we normally ship about a week from when an item is purchased. However, we are a small company! When order volume is high {and esp. if I am one staff member down like this week} it does delay shipment. I wish we had a full-time staff, but we don't. I am having interviews this week and next week to hire on more help. Timeliness is very important in our culture, and I understand that. I am doing my best to adjust to meet demand.

Also, I wanted to share with you some exciting news that Joyfolie was approached by a major retailer! I'm not going to say who yet because no orders have been placed, but it is so very exciting. So, if you are frustrated with our low inventory now, just know that you *might* be able to get in your car and see our shoes in person in a little under a year from now. In the interim, I am gathering a team of experts from well-known shoe companies to make our unique designs more durable and practical than our handmade version are now. I work really hard and I am spread very thin and I don't sleep very much--but I'm happy! I never know for sure what the future holds, so I am trying to enjoy today, even as I do battle with busy-ness. Thank you to all my customers who add such a wonderful enthusiasm to Joyfolie--you keep me going! (Even if I'm not so good about letting you know in an email.} I hope you are having a great week. Feel free to offer a suggestion for photo Friday in the comments.

The boots pictured are called Tabitha available here. They are one of a kind!

Photo Folie - Cerulean Velvet

Photobucket

Happy Friday! I have been meaning to do a Photo Friday using one of HoneyTree's photos for months now. For one thing, how could you not like something named HoneyTree? I wish I would have thought of a cool compound name, but it's not how my mind works. Plus, she lives in Sonoma near the Sea {I am *so jealous*} and has a beautiful blog.

Today's boots, called Cerulean Velvet, are made from the softest, most gorgeous velvet in shades of champagne, azure blue, caramel, and a bit of lavender. I photographed them in golden morning light on the embossed copper table on our back porch and with my great grandmother's mirror and some other odds and ends.
Photobucket

The fabric in the styled photo is a cream tulle embroidered with wool and gold thread. Additionally, there is a vintage velvet millinery flower we use in our fabric necklaces if I *ahem* ever get those going. The gold flower is one of our Belle Brooches, available here. The aurora borealis silver brooch will be seen in some of our new accessories coming soon(-ish.)
Photobucket

I did have a few of these boots in stock, but I hear my blackberry ringing, so they may be sold out already. Have a lovely weekend! And special thanks to Honey Tree for the gorgeous inspiration! XO

Maudie Boots and Lauren Headband

Photobucket

In the photo above Mia is dressed entirely in Joyfolie: Cala dress, pink lace tights, Lauren Headband, and Maudie Boots. I'm almost entirely sold out of the Cala dress. But, good news, as early as next week I will have photos of some new fall clothing pieces and perhaps even a pre-order sale with specials. I will let you know! As for the Maudie boots, I will replenish inventory next week. Our lovely Miss Sara is cutting out 2-3 per size, and I will let you know when they are ready.
Photobucket

I just entered the Lauren Headbands into inventory. They are simple, lovely and vintage. The bands are very stretchy and fit infant to child. I don't have too many, so purchase them while they are available!

Acorn Chains

The temperatures, at long last, have dropped here in Houston, and I am savoring it--the pleasant chill in the air in the morning and that I can finally take the kiddos to the park without angst. Aidan and Mia are so much fun right now... loving the sight of any pumpkin or Halloween decor. It's the wonder years, where all the seasonal festivities and decor is marveled at with oo's and ah's. Yesterday I came home with a bag of harvest pumpkins, leaves, and lights... and some of that fake spider webbing that is a real pain. {Is there I trick? I can't figure that stuff out!} I stumbled upon these cute little acorns at Maya*Made, and thought that if your kids are enjoying the holiday like mine, it would be a great afternoon project that is low on cost and mess and high on fun... and actually, really pretty. Happy Fall!

Photo Folie - Scarlet Autumn

Photobucket

While I love boots for fall, I have been hitting the buttoned down spat boots pretty hard lately. Lest I seem like a one-trick pony, I thought I would do something different today. I was drawn to this photo because I love fall and all that gorgeous red. I have noticed that I also tend to prefer images that reflect light and have lovely bokeh. Similarly, today's shoes have light reflecting fabric and feature the perfect shade of sienna because, as a customer once told me, every girl needs at least one pair of red shoes.
Photobucket

The flowers are made from an assortment of textures: vintage velvet, lace, and satin with corduroy leaves that are entirely hand cut and hand stitched. The shoes are called Julie and inspired by a friend/author at People Magazine. I have one per size 4-8 and will offer them sometime in the next few days. The fabric is pretty durable and will not show much wear or fade with use, so I think these would be appropriate for your heirloom collection. Special thanks to Racetay for the inspiring photo. Have a lovely weekend!
