Sophie Wrap Giveaway!

Photobucket
I finally fixed Gloria, my dress form. I didn't care for the honey oak stain she originally had, so I painted that silver and paper-mached the body with brown paper. She turned out perfect! Very vintage looking and much better than before. Unfortunately, grey clouds rolled in, and I only got to take one photo. I will try for more tomorrow. In the mean time, to celebrate the holidays, you can enter to win the grey Sophie wrap in the photo with a white brooch similar to the one pictured. There are three ways to enter: 1. simply leave a comment. 2. post a link or photo on your facebook page (using @joyfolie) 3. blog about it. Whichever way you choose, please be sure to leave one comment per entry, for up to three entries per person. Contest closes at 11:59pm on New Years Day, Saturday night. The winner will be announced on Sunday. Happy New Year!

PS If you would like the purchase the Sophie wrap, we only have three left in silver, and you can find them here. I realized I only put the winner of the fur bolero for our holiday giveaway on facebook. The winner and I have already connected via FB, but to see the winning invoice # click here.

I took a few moments for myself late last night. Pardon the poor quality of the photos. And, Gloria {my dress form} is going to get a make-over one of these days....

Merry Christmas

Photobucket
photo from here and here

Photobucket

"Christmas fulfills my deepest needs ...
to be forgiven from greed and selfishness,
to fill my empty soul with peace and compassion,
for hope and faith and charity,
for myself renewed and hope restored in an erring world."
-Robert D. Wigert

Merry Christmas! It is a dreary, tucked-in sort of day here. Our family of four opened presents fire-side. I actually cooked something... egg crepes gruyere with ham, cranberry muffins, pommes anna, and lots of berries and sparkling grape juice for the kids. We are getting together with my family later today, but before then I made two dresses and two pair of shoes for my adorable nieces, Kate and Ella. I think I'll make something similar for Mia, so I'll take photos then. {Sewing on Christmas, I know. That's how we roll over here...}

The photos above are not of our house, but they aren't that far off the mark of our color palette. Our first home had a maroon living room, and I joke that I have been working my way to neutral ever since. We have white feather trees on the mantel, stockings of gold, white velvet, and fur... white lights and gilded, sparkly {non-breakable} ornaments. Like the photos, I have urns filled with greenery every where. A florist in Holland once told me that it was very European to have entirely green floral arrangements. I'm not entirely sure if she was correct in her estimation, but I love the look regardless. Some day, I'll actually take photos of our house...

Truth is, it was a very hectic holiday, and Robert and I are conferring about how to prevent it for future Christmases. Though, I am looking forward to taking a few days next week to be creative just for me and my family.

Wishing a very Merry Christmas to you and yours this holiday!!

In Cahoots

Photobucket

I heard the water running, and some splashing. "Whatcha doing in there guys?" Aidan's reply, "Just washing our hands really good." You'd be amazed at how many bubbles one shampoo bottle can make in only a few moments of running water.

Special thanks to Shana Rae from Florabella Collection for the beautiful photos of our products! Her adorable daughter is wearing our Sophie fur wrap in silver.

These shoes will be coming in January...

Quite a few things happened both personally and professionally that were unexpected this holiday, and I didn't get to offer all the items that I intended to post in Holiday Part II. One of those is the silver necklace in some of these photos. We do have a few left in a similar style in silver or gold. Monday is the last day to ship in time for Christmas.

Wish List

Photobucket
1. Carved in Oak Belted Dress from Ruche 2.Urban Terrain Boot from Mod Cloth 3.Strong of Will Top by Anthropologie 4.Dessert Storm Jacket also from Ruche 5.Wall Paper and Fabric from the Designers Guild

Merry Christmas! I hope you are having a lovely holiday so far... sipping hot cocoa, snuggling kiddos, making snow men and all that. Here at our house, the holidays are a whirlwind. We kick start the month with back to back birthdays (Aidan's and Mia's), and then Robert's birthday is just a few days later. As you may know, my hubby is in wine, so he works seven (yes, 7) days a week for most of the month. I'm busy with orders, the kids have parties, the decorating, the buying, and on and on it goes. Add in a few 4 am nights working on samples, and I am one tired girl!

I'm looking forward to having every last package in the mail within the next few days, and taking some time to "just be" with my kiddos. However, surviving arrival to that point is, well, a feat! Robert asked me what I wanted for Christmas, and it was so far from my mind that this evening I took a few indulgent moments to browse online. This is what I came up with. What's on your list?

Meet Karri - Our Resident Illustrator

Photobucket
"A true friend is one who thinks you are a good egg even if you are half-cracked."
~Author Unknown

As far as businesses go, here at Joyfolie we're small. Often times I yearn for us to be a little further along: be a bit bigger, have more inventory, a few more helping hands... But one of the things I love about how small we are now is that all our items have a history, a story. Many times I have shared with you where I found some vintage buttons or how I got lost on my hunt for antique lace in the city or the thoughts I had that triggered a particular design. Our new addition of embellished tees are no exception! All our designs were custom illustrated by my dear friend Karri, pictured above.

Karri and I have know each other for, gosh, over ten years now, maybe! (K, has it really been that long?) Karri and I are kindred spirits... a longing for deep spirituality, a passion for family, a love for quotes, a delight in design. I trust Karri's taste implicitly. Karri lives in Michigan, and I moved to Texas. We kept in touch regularly, especially as we both found out we were due with a girl within weeks of each other. Over the years Karri sent me cards with quotes and her water color illustrations, and I have them tucked into places about the house. I always thought that Karri's illustrations would fit in perfectly somewhere at Joyfolie, and I am so happy to finally offer them! All our embellished tees were images that Karri painted for us, and we had screen printed with eco-friendly, water-based ink. I couldn't be more please with how they turned out! The images are soft and fresh, but with that vintage element that I love about Karri.

I had really high hopes for photographing these, but the truth is, they finished weeks later than expected. I ended up photographing them in a pinch outside, while Mia kept picking up the tees and Aidan was shaking the paper. Hopefully, into the new year, I can get some better photos.

In the meantime, here are a few pics of Karri....
Photobucket

and her adorable six year old son, Finn, a true sanguine, known for his outlandish quips, like coming home from the library with a pained look on his face, saying, "You always like those books with cottages and meadows and stuff... I want more boyish books."
Photobucket

and her adorable 3 year old Gemma; a gem indeed. She is such a doll. It pains me that she is too far away to use her as a model....
Photobucket

I asked Karri to share a bit about herself, her family, and her artwork with you, and this is what she said:

"My husband and I have been married for a little over nine years and have two children. My son is a beautiful boy named Finn, he's a six year old force of nature. Energetic, enthusiastic, loud and creative.

My daughter Gemma, a little wisp of a three year old who changed my mind about pink. She's funny, affectionate, imaginative, and all about "bellawina's."

The prize of motherhood for me is learning who these amazing individuals that I've been entrusted are. They're so unique and complete. I have profound respect for these little humans in my care.

I've been drawing and painting for as long as I can remember... I don't recall when I got my first set of watercolors, but other than a pencil or ink, it's best reflects the clean simplicity I love. Whimsy, a quick light touch. Nothing too perfect or serious, funny because I'm a serious perfectionist. Maybe it's more art therapy than anything because other than the occasional wedding invite, or cards for friends and family, I draw and paint for myself or my kids.

Ideally, I like to create when I have time, quiet and a clean house. In real life it's more along the lines of; I need a gift tag and card for the party that starts in an hour! What saves the day in these situations is that I love beauty and am inspired by the creativity of others. I tend to file away the ideas I love along the way."

Thanks, Karri, for sharing your talent and a bit of yourself with Joyfolie! XO!! You can view all of our tees here.

Joyfolie Holiday - Part One

Photobucket
Happy Holidays! I am happy to announce that in the nick of time, our holiday items will be available! We have many new items to add on Thursday. We will also being offering additional inventory (especially shoes and boots) as they are finished/arrive. So, if you can't make it exactly at 9 pm on Thursday, don't worry! We plan on offering more items over the next week.

If you are new to Joyfolie, the reason we post specific times to enter our inventory is that we are very blessed that our items sell very fast. Our shoes sell in seconds of posting. For this reason, we are releasing all our new holiday apparel at 9pm on Thursday, December 9. To thank our customers and spread a little holiday cheer, between our launch on Thursday and Sunday, December 10, orders over $100 will receive a free I Like Surprises Clip Set! Also, any purchase made in that time will entered into a drawing for a fur bolero that will fit size 2-6T!

I have lots of photographs for you, and quite a few more still to post. I separated the photos into Part I and Part II, one in warmth and wine, the other in cool tones centered around the shades of plummy lilac in our new dress.

The opening photo is of our Annalise Brooch/Belt. Like several of our items this holiday, it is designed to be shared by mother and daughter. The large flower is all hand cut, and features a gorgeous 1940's button from my aforementioned shopping trip. These glass buttons were made in Austria during WWII while it was under captivity of the Germans. They reflect light beautifully and photograph lovely. The flower can be worn independently as a brooch, and the belt (fit for a toddler) can be worn as a simple velvet belt. These come in wine (in the pictures below) and champagne (photos posted soon!)

Photo Folie - Grey and Mirrors

Photobucket
Photo from Small Place Style

Photobucket
Photo from Made by Girl

Today is a quickie Photo Friday! I have a million things on my to-do list, and little kiddos pounding on each other in the background at the moment! I have both of these photos in my favorites. I love the silver brocade wall paper in the photo above--so boutique hotel! It's an interesting mix of texture and pattern; something I would love to emulate in a hallway or small space. The photo above has a touch of fuschia and a hint of blue, which made it's way into the photo styling for the boots. These fun little kicks are simple, but super versatile. The exterior is silver velvet, but they are top-lined in silver faux fur and are super, super tall. (On Mia the are almost over the knee.)
Photobucket

Little girl can wear them up, down, or any way in between!
Photobucket

I have a couple of these boots which will be available with our holiday launch! In addition, here is a quick picture of Mia in our grey ruffled jacket and Mad for Shoes tee in Orchid. (Also available in Papaya.)
Photobucket

Finally, here is a side profile of the grey jacket, which is full lined. Mia is wearing the Hansel boots, available here. I still have quite a few photos to take for our apparel pieces, and will post a date for our holiday launch over the weekend, so be sure to visit our blog or FB page.

Special thanks to Made by Girl and Small Place Style for the inspiration!
Happy Weekend!!
