Tap, Tap. Is this thing on?

"Life is like a rainbow. You need both the sun and the rain to make its colors appear.”- Annon.

I can't believe it has been 3 weeks since my last blog post!  This lag is entirely out of the ordinary for me, and this holiday has been quite a journey of ups and downs.  I came to the acute realization that Joyfolie is severely understaffed in the middle of December.  As I was struggling through that reality, it was the perfect time {note the facetious tone} for both of my children to have round after round of sickness.  At the tail end of a string of fevers, my son Aidan ended up with the stomach flu.  Not too unlike my husband, Aidan does not handle sickness well.  In fact, when he gets sick, his eyes bug out and he frantically grabs onto anything and everything.  And never, never makes it to the bathroom.  There was nothing--no blanket, no carpeting, no clothing {even my own} that went untouched.  I am sure you mothers out there have had similar experiences.  With a thriving business and sick children, I was feeling overwhelmed and inundated by the end of the holidays.  But, to be honest, this is nothing new for me... I am used to struggling and finding ways to overcome.

I will say, though, that this blog is the heartbeat of the business, and I was sad and disheartened that is sat stagnant for so long.  {I have solutions up my sleeve.  *wink wink*}  As I seek out those strategies, I am going to bring back photo Folie and DIY posts with as much consistency as I can manage.

Early this week I was unexpectedly out of town on business.  It was an amazing experience; I was equally encouraged and more nervous than I have been in a long time.  As I departed for the airport, everyone said the same refrain: be yourself.  It's a good reminder to embrace our individuality, appropriate for any day or occasion, I think.  I came back after my trip and Mia crawled into bed with me unexpectedly in the middle of the night.  She wrapped her arm around my neck, stroked my hair, and whispered things in my ear, like: "I am glad you're back" and "next time, can I go with?"  It was nice to be away, and nice to be home

Here is to 2012!  A bigger, better, brand new year! he, he....

I also have a little boy with the stomach flu who, at 22 months, has no concept of making it to the bathroom. I feel your pain! So nice to see you back blogging again, I'm sure the holidays were simply crazy for you.

Thanks for the note, Erin! Sorry to hear your little man was sick, too. While I feel for the ailing wee ones, sometimes the stomach bug is almost worse for mom! :)

Glad to have you back! So sorry that Aiden got sick, I couldn't agree more with your comment to Erin though, that it is so hard on a mama when the babies are sick!

Hoping that 2012 brings great things for you! And you know, I would love to come on board with Joyfolie and leave me real job...if you ever needed help all the way in AZ! Just saying :)

Hello Jessica,
I am so glad you are back! And am very sorry to hear that the kids of one of my favorite blogs were sick. Yes, I had a feeling that that was the case. I have 6 kids of my own... and sometimes/most of the time I feel like I smell like them... (lol) My youngest is 9 mo. Oldest 15 yrs. And mine also always get sick when times are the busiest.
And it is hard when others tell you... this season will pass. Cause it seems as if the season takes forever.
Maybe you can have some drafts stored... with fun photo's or some guest writers to keep the post going even if you are not able too... we will still miss YOU though!

Have a beautiful, successful year!

Jenni, It's always nice to see your name!! <3 Help in AZ: noted! :)

Emily, I love your work! I am so inspired, and I think you are outrageously funny! I'll be checking in on your blog!

Sandy, thanks for the encouraging note. Yes, I know what you mean about taking on the... flavor of the kids. I don't think a day goes by where I don't have a spear of mac&cheese somewhere on my ensemble :)
